Leah is originally from Memphis, Tennessee.  She earned a BA in Political Science from Texas A&M University in 1995 and graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1999.  She moved to Houston later that year and joined an insurance defense firm, but soon realized she wanted to practice in medical malpractice defense.

Leah's interest in medical malpractice defense is two-fold.  Her father was a veterinarian, which gave her the opportunity to see first-hand how hard he worked to care for the animals he treated and to explain that treatment to their owners.  Dinner-time discussions about his job and working at his veterinary clinic piqued her interest in the medical field in general.  In addition, her participation in mock trial competitions in law school solidified Leah's desire to be a litigator, because she learned she particularly enjoyed the challenge of overcoming the stigma of wrongdoing attached to the defendant.  Medical malpractice defense combines her two greatest interests: her love for medicine and her passion for using the law to defend health care professionals.  Leah defends physicians and hospital systems (including their employee nurses and physical therapists) in health care liability claims.  To better serve the firm's clients, Leah earned her LL.M. in Health Law at the University of Houston Law Center in August 2008.

Community involvement is also important to Leah.  She serves as a Council Member for Bo's Buddies, an auxiliary of Bo's Place, which provides free grief counseling for children who have lost a parent or sibling.  She has also participated in the Houston Bar Association's Interprofessional Drug Education Alliance ("IDEA") Committee, which educates fifth graders about the legal and medical consequences of using drugs and alcohol.

Leah was elected Secretary to the Greater Houston Society of Healthcare Risk Managers (GHSHRM) Board of Directors in 2011 and serves as a member of its Education Committee.

In 2010, Leah was named a "Rising Star" in Medical Malpractice Defense Litigation and Health Law by Texas Monthly
