New and Improved Jury Assembly Building for Harris County

by Suzanne Daniluk, RN on June 23rd, 2011

Good news for Houston’s prospective jurors: here’s something to make your civic duty more convenient. A new state-of-the-art facility for jury assembly was dedicated on June 20th, and will open July 5th.

The new Harris County Jury Assembly Room and Transportation Plaza, located at 1201 Congress, replaces the old building at 1019 Congress used for jury assembly since the 1980s. The new building has easy access to the downtown courthouses. A reconfigured tunnel system connects to a parking garage, eliminating the need for jurors to cross busy streets or face jailed inmates, enhancing security of the location.

Built on surrounding green space and designed for a pleasing aesthetic with natural interior light, the new facility contains amenities including WiFi, food vendors, and cell phone charging ports; all of which, if it doesn’t make one exactly eager for jury duty, does seek to improve overall jury selection efficiency and juror comfort.
