Winkler County Attorney & Sheriff Lose Jobs, Go to Jail; Doctor to Plead Guilty

by Suzanne Daniluk, RN on November 7th, 2011

Rolando Arafiles, M.D., the doctor at the center of the Winkler County, Texas nurses case previously reported here, will plead guilty to charges on November 7, 2011.

His case is the last to be resolved.  Codefendants former County Attorney Scott Tidwell and former Sheriff Robert Roberts have both received jail sentences for their roles in retaliation against the two nurses who reported Dr. Arafiles to the Texas Medical Board regarding patient-care concerns. Dr. Arafiles faces an additional charge of aggravated perjury related to the nurses’ trial, as well as felony misuse of official information, retaliation, and misdemeanor official oppression, of which his codefendants were convicted.
