OB/GYNs Favor Making the Pill Over the Counter

Making birth control pills over-the-counter could help reduce the nation’s 50 percent unintended pregnancy rate, according to physicians with the American Congress of Obstetrician and Gynecologists. The group announced its support for this proposition in a recently published ACOG policy statement. While there is a low risk for blood clot formation associated with the drugs, the organization noted that this risk is higher during pregnancy and that other over-the-counter drugs such as aspirin also pose some risk.
